From Public Safety Improvements to Workforce Development, City of Atlantic City Highlights 2024 Efforts During Year-End Review

City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. held his annual ‘Year-End Review’ News Conference on December 18, 2024, giving the directors of each of his departments the chance to update the public on the status of their goals for the year, which were revealed during the mayor’s ‘State of the City’ address on February 2nd. Out of 124 goals, the city departments completed 94-percent. Before turning things over to his directors, Mayor Small updated the status of some city projects. The City Hall Courtyard and Pop Lloyd Stadium renovation will be completed this Spring, and by this Christmas, all renovations will be complete at the Atlantic City Aquarium.
 
The full recap of which 2024 department goals were met is attached to this release, below please find a highlight from each department:
 
  • 2024 tax decrease - 5th straight under Mayor Small (Revenue & Finance)
  • Installation of 750 Storm Water grates in every ward (Public Works)
  • Increased ACFD staffing levels - highest since 2018 (Fire Department)
  • Officers added to all Atlantic City schools for first time in ACPD history (Police Department)
  • Improve CITISTAT process to further ensure quality of life issues are addressed in a timely manner (IT)
  • Prepare for January’s ‘Great Day Atlantic City’ launch to market Atlantic City like never before (Public Information)
  • More redevelopment projects in place than ever totaling hundreds of millions of dollars (Planning & Development)
  • Support Affordable Housing Development, like the First-Time Homebuyer Lottery Program for residents (CDBG)
  • Increased Community Outreach to help residents (Municipal Courts)
  • Use data to lessen liability in personal injury claims, saving the taxpayers money (Solicitor’s Office)
  • Amend codes to increase efficiency of licensing process to generate revenue for the city (Licensing & Inspection)
  • Additional supervisory training to improve performance of city leaders (HR)
  • Workforce Development – Job Program for Homeless Population (Health & Human Resources)
