Cannabis for the City
Cannabis Statement for the City of Atlantic City
In recent years, the State of New Jersey has moved to legalize cannabis. In 2020, voters in this state voted overwhelmingly in favor of legalizing adult use cannabis. Municipalities were given authority to determine how they would participate in this industry. The City of Atlantic City fully “opted-in” to adult use cannabis. All cannabis licenses are permitted within the geographical boundary of the City of Atlantic City with locations subject to local legislation.
The City has passed several ordinances governing the rules, regulations, and guidelines for local licensing. The City has established a local cannabis review board that will review applications and provide advisory opinions to City Council and to the local Planning Board. Applicants wishing to operate a cannabis business in the City of Atlantic City must be licensed by both the State of New Jersey and the City of Atlantic City. Applicants wishing to operate in areas within the Tourism District will also be subject to approval by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, CRDA.
