Atlantic City Reentry Services (ACRS)

We emphasize creating a plan for an inmate's reentry into the community by encouraging them to attend our reentry workshops. These workshops prepare inmates by:

  • Developing a reentry plan
  • Developing basic life skills

We also encourage them to go to our reentry presentations that discuss services available to them after release such as:

  • Finding housing
  • Finding a job
  • Medical needs
  • Substance abuse treatment
  • Mental health
  • Transportation
  • Legal issues

Pre-Release inmates may be able to take part in the Work Release Program. This program:

  • Matches an inmate's skills with job opportunities in the community
  • Allows inmates to earn at least minimum wage
  • Gives an inmate work experience to make the employment process easier after release

To participate, an inmate must meet eligibility and be within 9-6 months of release or parole eligibility.

The City of Atlantic City’s Administration’s position when it comes to reentry is to promote public safety by offering reentry services to offenders and their families through care and appropriate programming in preparation for successful reentry as well as community reintegration. Atlantic City Reentry Services (ACRS) will Manage - Care – and offer Programming – designed to foster positive behavioral change in order to eliminate violence, victimization and recidivism.

Mission Statement

About Us

ACRS- Reducing Atlantic’s City Recidivism Rate!

Reentry refers to the transition of an incarcerated individual from prison or jail back into the community. Reentry programs in correctional facilities are not created equal, with some institutions committed to preparing individuals for their return home, while others provide little to no reentry services or programs.

Our criminal justice system is a broken system and needs great improvement on various levels.  Despite downward trends in criminal activity, the U.S. still has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Although being number one in incarceration, we as Americans are failing at rehabilitation and preparation. All thou it has become a incoming producing industry creating stream of wealth within itself.

That is why the City of Atlantic City through the leadership of Mayor Marty Small Sr.’s Office and Department of Health and Human Services had established reentry services for its returning citizens and former offenders’ population. Therefore, Atlantic City Reentry Services team along with city staff, volunteers,  partners and community stakeholders strive to use our combined experiences, expertise, and resources to empower incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals with the skills, tools, and knowledge they need to become thriving and productive citizens in the communities to which they return.
