Atlantic City Selected for $30K Scholarship to Address Vacant Abandoned Properties

Posted September 01, 2026

Atlantic City has been selected as one of only two New Jersey municipalities to receive a $30,000 Abandoned Property Rehabilitation Act (APRA) Scholarship from the Center for Community Progress to strengthen efforts to address vacant, abandoned and deteriorated properties.

The scholarship provides up to 125 hours of technical assistance from national experts, along with a two-day site visit, recommendations for improving local strategies, funding guidance and the opportunity for three City representatives to attend the Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference in Pittsburgh.

The assistance will focus on tools available through APRA, including creating a Vacant Abandoned Properties List and using receivership to facilitate the rehabilitation of properties when owners fail to make necessary repairs.

The City is currently revising its vacant abandoned property ordinance and will use the scholarship to strengthen efforts to reduce blight, encourage redevelopment and return vacant properties to productive use.
