City of Atlantic City and Local Students Plant Trees Together to Celebrate Arbor Day

Posted April 24, 2026

In recognition of Arbor Day, the City of Atlantic City, in partnership with the Atlantic City Shade Tree Committee, was joined by students from Pennsylvania Avenue School in grades 3 through 6 for a hands-on tree planting event that highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship and taking pride in your community. The event began with remarks outside the school, where Mayor Marty Small, Sr., along with representatives from Atlantic City’s Department of Planning and Development and the Shade Tree Committee, spoke to students about the significance of Arbor Day, the vital role trees play and the long-term benefits of caring for the environment.

Following the remarks, students worked side-by-side with members of the Shade Tree Committee and Atlantic City’s Department of Public Works to plant three crabapple trees and two red maple trees along North Carolina Avenue. In addition, students also participated in a creative activity led by the Atlantic City Youth Services division, where they planted seeds in personalized pots they designed themselves.

The Midtown Community Development Corporation (CDC) and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) worked with the City of Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Shade Tree Committee to make this event possible.
