The City of Atlantic City is preparing for a severe and dangerous winter storm expected to impact the region beginning Sunday, February 22, 2026, and continuing through midnight Monday, February 24, with potential impacts extending into Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, Atlantic City could receive up to 24 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 52 mph, creating blizzard conditions, whiteout visibility, and extremely hazardous travel conditions. Moderate coastal flooding is forecast for late Sunday evening and potentially again around midday Monday, which may further impact roadways and municipal operations.
This storm presents a serious threat to life and safety. Travel is strongly discouraged and should not be attempted unless absolutely necessary for emergency purposes.
The City of Atlantic City Department of Public Works has initiated full storm operations, including brining, salting, and plowing. Crews will be deployed continuously throughout the event. Residents are asked not to drive so Public Works crews can safely and efficiently clear roadways for emergency access by police, fire, and medical responders. The Emergency Operations Center will be open from Sunday evening until Monday evening, but that timeline could be extended if necessary do to conditions.
The City will also be enforcing snow emergency routes, and vehicles parked along these routes will be subject to towing from Sunday at 4pm until at least Tuesday morning. Snow emergency routes include the following streets:
▪ Atlantic Avenue
▪ Martin Luther King Boulevard
▪ Ohio Avenue
▪ Indiana Avenue
▪ Melrose Avenue
▪ Arctic Avenue
▪ Fairmount Avenue / Baltic Avenue
The Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management, Atlantic City Police Department, and Atlantic City Fire Department will have additional personnel, apparatus, and emergency resources staged and ready.
At the request of the City of Atlantic City’s Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has authorized free parking for Atlantic City residents and visitors at the following locations through at least Tuesday, weather permitting:
Wave Parking Garage, corner of Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues (second floor)
Showboat Hotel Parking Garage
The City strongly encourages residents to check on neighbors, particularly elderly residents, individuals with disabilities, and those with mobility or medical needs, and to assist safely where possible.
Atlantic City residents are encouraged to sign up for AC Alerts at:
https://www.acnj.gov/pages/acalerts to receive emergency text and email notifications. The City also urges the public to closely monitor forecasts, warnings, and advisories issued by the National Weather Service and all City Social Media sites for updates on this event.
Additional announcements regarding municipal operations, parking restrictions, trash collection, and emergency services will be issued as conditions warrant.
