City of Atlantic City Announces Cost-Saving Community Solar Initiative
Posted November 13, 2025Atlantic City residents will soon have an opportunity to cut their electric bills by up to 15 percent thanks to a new Community Solar initiative launched by the City of Atlantic City. During the November City Council meeting, the city awarded a community solar contract to HESP Solar, which will install solar canopies at two municipal sites: the City Hall employee parking lot on Arctic Avenue and the Public Works Complex parking lot on Albany Avenue.
Through this program, residents who choose to opt in can enjoy immediate savings on their electric bills without installing panels on their own homes.
HESP Solar was selected through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. The company will lease the two parking lots from the city and will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and operating the solar canopies at no cost to taxpayers. In addition, approximately 10 percent of the project’s generated energy will directly benefit the city, further reducing municipal energy expenses. Construction is expected to begin in late spring, with oversight by the City of Atlantic City Department of Public Works.
