Virtual Sessions: NJEDA Offshore Wind & Community Based Organizations

Posted June 14, 2022

Join NJEDA and the Governor’s Office of Climate Action for a two-part virtual program to learn about offshore wind in New Jersey and share your recommendations on the best ways to engage and support local communities in the growing offshore wind workforce.

Session 1 (June 14, 2022), Offshore Wind 101, will provide NJ non-profits and CBOs with an overview of the offshore wind industry in New Jersey, including the basics around offshore wind energy, the timing of different projects, and an overview of the different kinds of jobs that this new industry will require. Session 2 (June 21, 2022) will provide an opportunity for CBOs and non-profits to share feedback and to dialogue with the State on how to expand workforce training and family sustaining job opportunities in this growing industry.

NJ is committed to growing a diverse and inclusive offshore wind industry and NJEDA and the Governor’s Office look forward to a robust discussion on how to work together to ensure that this new industry creates opportunities for communities across New Jersey.

Tuesday, June 14th 3pm-4:30pm: Offshore Wind 101
NJEDA will provide an introduction to offshore wind—How does offshore wind work? Where will the turbines be located?—as well as details on how NJ is investing in this industry to meet our clean energy goals, create jobs and grow opportunities for NJ businesses.  This session will include a presentation and time for questions and answers. Register here for the June 14 event.

Tuesday, June 21 3pm-4:30pm: Listening Session
Following up on information provided in Session 1, representatives from NJ CBOs and non-profits are invited to continue the discussion and share their thoughts on how they can work in partnership with the State to increase access to economic and job opportunities for their constituents.  This session will provide an opportunity for NJ CBOs and non-profits to provide direct feedback on barriers to entering the workforce, best practices to address those barriers, resources non-profits and CBOs require to successfully engage, and other relevant topics. Register here for the June 21 event.

Registering for both sessions is encouraged but not required.
