Atlantic City Police Warn of Phone Scam Involving the ACPD
Posted June 26, 2025The Atlantic City Police Department is advising the community of a phone scam. A resident reported being contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as a member of the Atlantic City Police Department. The unknown caller was able to spoof the police department’s non-emergency phone number to the Communications Unit. Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity.
After identifying himself as a detective, the unknown caller advised the resident that there was an active warrant for her arrest and she needed to turn herself in or she would be arrested at her residence. An alternative to being arrested was provided that included purchasing items on the internet.
The community should be aware that a member of the police department will not call and request that you turn yourself in and request the purchase of items, including gift cards, in lieu of that arrest. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Section at 609-347-5766 or submit a text anonymously to tip411 (847411). Begin the text with ACPD.
