Firefighters Dispatch 5-Alarm Atlantic City Building Fire on S. Georgia Avenue

At approximately 7:53 a.m. on July 11, the Atlantic City Fire Department responded to reports of heavy flames coming from a building on S. Georgia Avenue near Pacific Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters immediately rescued individuals in the building. The fire grew to five alarms and spread to two neighboring buildings. The fire was placed under control at approximately 1:10 p.m. Four firefighters are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Five occupants of the building are also being treated for injuries. Two of those occupants were airlifted to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment. The American Red Cross and Volunteers of America are on scene assisting at least 76 occupants who have been displaced. Displaced individuals are asked to go to the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall Parking Garage. The Atlantic City Fire Department received assistance from neighboring fire companies in Absecon, Bargaintown, Brigantine, Linwood, Longport, Margate, Northfield, Oceanville, Pleasantville, Somers Point, Ventnor.
