ACPD Honors Fallen Officer Whose Line of Duty Death Was Recently Discovered
Posted October 30, 2023The Atlantic City Police Department honored Patrolman Laverne Harrison Carr on Saturday, October 28, 2023 outside the Clayton G. Graham Public Safety Building. Patrolman Carr died in the line of duty on June 6, 1929, succumbing to injuries sustained following a motorcycle collision.
Patrolman Carr’s death was not known to the ACPD until earlier this year, when it was discovered by the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP). With the help of local media, in particular NBC10 Philadelphia, the ACPD was able to locate two of Patrolman Carr’s great grandchildren. Those relatives, along with their families, joined police as a plaque was revealed in front of the Public Safety Building. Patrolman Carr's plaque now sits next to the plaques of other Atlantic City police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
