Atlantic City Announced as New Jersey’s 35th Transit Village

Posted June 16, 2023

The Murphy Administration announced the City of Atlantic City as a Transit Village, making Atlantic City New Jersey’s 35th municipality to be recognized. According to a release by the New Jersey Department of Transportation:

Atlantic City’s primary objective in the Transit Village District is to promote compact, mixed-use development, and a walkable, bikeable and transit friendly environment around the Atlantic City rail station, which is the focal point of the Transit Village. The plan is to increase housing opportunities within walking distance of shops, restaurants, offices, entertainment, and cultural centers by increasing opportunities for pedestrian activity and reducing reliance on automobiles. This should help reduce traffic congestion and pollution, boost the local economy, and improve the feeling of safety and security.

"It's been important to the Small Administration to enhance public transit, strengthen our economy, and encourage development near our transit facilities,” said City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. “With this recognition and support, we will continue our efforts to make even greater improvements for our community. On behalf of our residents and visitors, we thank Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Transportation for designating the Great City of Atlantic City as a Transit Village.”
