Posted May 26, 2023

The summer season kicked off in Atlantic City on Friday with the annual “Opening of the Sea” ceremony outside Resorts Hotel Casino. City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr., Atlantic City Police Chief James Sarkos, Atlantic City Fire Chief Scott Evans and Atlantic City of Atlantic City Beach Patrol Chief Steve Downey all welcomed visitors to the city for the summer season.

“It is my pleasure and honor, today, to officially unlock the ocean, and let the world know the famous Atlantic City beach is open for business,” said Mayor Small. “The great City of Atlantic City is ready to welcome all tourists here to show the world that we are the best in the hospitality industry.”

Mayor Small then surprised actor Kelsey Grammer, who was on hand to participate in the ceremony, with a key to the city. Grammer has been coming to Atlantic City since he was a child, and makes regular guest bartending appearances at various Atlantic City establishments.

The ceremony concluded with Mayor Small officially unlocking the ocean for the season, then dropping a memorial wreath in the water with the help of the ACBP.

“We wish everyone a happy, safe and healthy summer season,” added Mayor Small.
