ATLANTIC CITY JOINT MUNICIPAL COURT

The Atlantic City Municipal Court and the Pleasantville Municipal Court merged services on January 1, 2024, forming the Atlantic City Joint Municipal Court. The joint municipal court now serves the municipalities of Atlantic City and Pleasantville, with all court sessions being held at the Atlantic City Municipal Court location.

For matters with a mandatory court appearance, individuals will receive a notice in the mail with court date information. For payable offenses, contact the court if you wish to contest the matter.

Virtual Court Hearings are heard via the Zoom platform. Zoom information is provided on the court notice and also on the court’s webpage: The Official Website of City of Atlantic City, NJ - Municipal Court (acnj.gov). There will be limited exceptions for in-person appearances.

NEW Online Municipal Case Resolution- No Court Appearance Required!
Atlantic City Municipal Court now offers online ticket review to dispute over 40 eligible moving violations through the Online Municipal Case Resolution System.  By having a moving violation reviewed online, it is not necessary to make any court appearance if the case can be resolved.  Simply visit njmcdirect.com and enter your ticket information to see if your offense is eligible, and select the option for Case Dispute. Eligible traffic tickets will be reviewed by a prosecutor and you will be notified with their recommendation.  To see if you are eligible to have your matter reviewed online, please visit njmcdirect.com.

If your matter is not eligible for online ticket review, you can still request to have your ticket(s) heard in the Atlantic City Municipal Court via Zoom video conferencing. To plead not guilty, contact the court by phone or email.

Payments: Defendants may make payments for Parking and Traffic matters and Municipal Complaint Time Payment Orders, through the municipal court’s online payment website at njmcdirect.com.

Payments will also continue to be accepted at the court payment window during normal business hours, or by mail. Payments can also be placed in the drop box located on the 2nd floor of the Public Safety Building, 2715 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ. The court payment window is open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm.

According to the State of NJ Judiciary website, "the Municipal Courts in New Jersey are considered courts of limited jurisdiction, having responsibility for motor vehicle and parking tickets, minor criminal-type offenses, municipal ordinance offenses, and other offenses.  A Municipal Court usually has jurisdiction only over cases that occur within the boundaries of its municipality.

"Serious criminal cases, such as robbery, auto theft, or assault, may start out as complaints filed in the Municipal Court but are transferred to the Superior Court located at the county courthouse."


Court Director Gina Holmes

Gina Holmes is a dedicated public servant with over 30 years of experience working for the City of Atlantic City. During her tenure with the City of Atlantic City, she has worked in the Municipal Court and the Prosecutor’s Office. Gina is currently the Court Director for the Atlantic City Municipal Court and was appointed to that position in 2018. Prior to her becoming the Director, she was the Court Administrator for the Atlantic City Municipal Court.
Gina is fully accredited and certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Court Administrator (CMCA). As a judicial officer, Gina has an extensive knowledge of the judicial system and the inner workings of a municipal court. She is responsible for developing goals and objectives that will ensure the court is running efficiently and effectively. She is also responsible for ensuring that the Atlantic City Municipal Court is compliant with all the policies and procedures promulgated by the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). As the director, Gina is the liaison between the executive branch of government and the judiciary, on court related administrative matters.
As a lifelong resident of Atlantic City, Gina is committed to the community.  She works diligently to promote an environment in the Atlantic City Municipal Court that ensures due process of the law, while maintaining the public’s respect and confidence of a fair and just system for all.
Gina obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management, from Thomas Edison University. Additionally, she is a 2020 graduate of the Rutgers University School of Public Affairs and Administration Certified Public Managers Program and a Certified Public Manager (CPM)

Prosecutor
The Prosecutor’s Office is located on the second floor of the Public Safety Building. We prosecute disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses (such as assault, minor drug offenses, theft, shoplifting, harassment, trespassing and truancy), motor vehicle traffic violations (including driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, suspended driving, other moving violations and parking offenses), municipal ordinance violations (including Code Enforcement and Mercantile violations), fish and game violations, boating violations, SPCA violations and other violations within the City of Atlantic City.

Public Defender
The Public Defender’s Office serves clients who are indigent and are accused of disorderly and petty disorderly offenses in Atlantic City. To qualify for a Public Defender, a defendant has to be assigned by a Municipal Court Judge and pay the required mandatory fee for our services. On average, the Public Defender’s office handles about 100 cases per week.
