The Citizen Advisory Board (CAB) was created by Atlantic City Ordinance 40-1 in 2012 and is comprised of 21 appointed members. The overall goal of the CAB is to foster communication, inclusiveness, and transparency between the community and the Police Department. The CAB meets monthly with the Chief of the Atlantic City Police Department.
The duties and responsibilities of the CAB are as follows:
- To receive/compile information from both the Police Department, as determined by the Chief, and the general public so that the CAB can review on public safety and law enforcement trends;
- To receive/compile information about best practices of law enforcement from around the country, particularly in the area of community policing and development of alternatives to incarceration;
- To provide citizens with the opportunity to converse directly with Atlantic City Police leadership regarding public safety concerns;
- To provide citizens with the opportunity to give informed feedback on the performance of the Police Department with respect to public safety concerns and quality of police community relations, including but not limited to concerns regarding neighborhood presence, quality and frequency of police contacts, response time, proactive police initiatives;
- To encourage candid and collaborative problem solving.
